Ben's bio

Ben was born in 1961 and was raised on a farm in Michigan.  He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 and graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 1986.  Since that time, Ben has devoted over 20 years of his life to the representation of people who have been injured physically or financially by the negligence or malpractice of others. He has handled nearly a thousand cases in his career.  Although a vast majority are injury cases, he has also represented people who have been victimized by the malpractice of professionals and others who have been injured by criminal acts such as assaults or sexual abuse.

Ben always prefers to settle cases so that his clients do not suffer the additional injury of having to go through the stress of trial or arbitration.  A significant majority of his cases settle without the need for a lawsuit.  However, at any given time, Ben and his office are involved in lawsuits with individuals who refuse to accept full responsibility for the injuries they have caused to others.  Sometimes these lawsuits are resolved by arbitration where either one or three arbitrators hear the case outside of a courtroom and decide how much an injured party should be compensated for their injuries.  Other times, Ben represents clients who are forced to go through a jury trial to obtain fair compensation for their injuries.  Ben has tried many jury trials and arbitrations.  He follows a simple set of principles whenever trying a case.  First and foremost is that the jury must always be told the candid truth about any case.  Brutal honestly is always appreciated and is necessary if one expects justice from a jury or an arbitrator.  Whenever someone is involved in litigation we hope that by candidly telling the true story about what happened it is a way to heal both the injured party and in many cases it’s a healing for the wrongdoer as well.  Our office always tries to consider the affects of litigation on our clients and do the best we can to minimize the damaging effects that litigation can have on someone.

Ben enjoys spending time with his daughter and son, dirt bike riding, powder snow skiing, kayaking, camping, working on four wheel drive trucks, building trail in the mountains and being outside with his family and friends.
