Do's and Don'ts
The following is a list of suggestions:
- Always tell the truth about what happened and about your injury.
- Follow your doctor's instructions and do not disobey his or her instructions. Always tell your doctor the truth about your injuries and try your hardest to recover. This will optimize both your physical and legal recovery.
- If you are having financial trouble or thinking about bankruptcy because of your injury, call us immediately.
- Obtain a receipt or bill for all drugs or appliances purchased by you, and mail the receipts to this office.
- Notify us at once of any changes in employment, raises or reductions in salary, or loss of job. Similarly, if you are required to miss any work due to your injuries, keep our office informed of all work missed and dates that you return to work.
- Notify our office at once of any change of address and home or business telephone number.
- If you are going out of town for more than one week, please advise our office of when you will return and how you might be reached while away.
- Keep a record of all health care providers that you have seen, and keep us updated when you begin treatment with a new doctor or clinic.
- Keep a record of all expenses incurred as a result of the accident, including persons that you have to employ to perform services for you, mileage to and from the doctor or therapist, or any other expenses that you feel were incurred as a result of the accident.
- If you are self-employed, keep a record of all the times that you are unable to work or perform your duties, and discuss with us how we might best demonstrate your loss of profits as a result of your inability to perform your work.
- If you have Blue Cross, King County Medical, medical pay coverage, or any kind of medical insurance, provide our legal assistant with a copy of all completed forms that you submit to your insurance company. In many circumstances your insurance carrier is entitled to get paid back out of your recovery. Therefore, it is important to tell us who your health insurance company is.
- Notify us immediately if you hear anything that you feel may affect your case.
