Yesterday I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Joshua Miller at the New York Post for his recent article about some of the dangers associated with being a content moderator. Content moderators work to keep illegal and in appropriate content from reaching consumers and they are often exposed to unbelievably violent and disturbing images. Recent events involving the live streaming of deaths on Facebook have brought the role of content moderators to the forefront. The media has taken notice of the lawsuit we recently filed against Microsoft and are asking hard questions. The facts are coming out about the lack of safety precautions in the workplace. People take these jobs and don’t realize what they are getting into. They often do not experience the full effects of PTSD until they no longer work in these positions. The symptoms can be absolutely debilitating. I am very concerned about employees hired by vendors in third world countries. I have heard stories about very little pay and no safety precautions. I hope more attention will be focused on this. The media can play a huge role in protecting these content moderators who perform a very important service.
